What are the Reiki Precepts?

The reiki precepts, or ideals, are a set of ideas or mantras for people- especially those on the Reiki path to live by.

The first is- Just for today I will let go of worry

In the hectic-ness of western-21st century life, this can feel like a difficulty at times, but my Reiki practise has taught me a lot about letting go of worry which I will share with you here.

1- Connect to your breath, and to your body. By coming back to the present moment we are able to offer ourselves space. By being present we are taking the mind from the past or the future and instead focussing only on what is directly in front of us- generally this can make things easier to deal with.

2- ‘Higher perspective’ in tandem to being able to focus in on the moment, being able to zoom out, notice how small your worry might be in the grand scheme of things. After all, you’ve survived everything else that worried you so far.

3- Thought releasing exercises/meditations, use a visualising to witness your thoughts drifting past you,  rather than as something that you need to grab ahold of.

4- Write it out- scribble it down to move it out of your system, this will give you the perspective mentioned above.

5-Talk it out- let yourself be reassured by some one your trust.

6- Make sure you nourished, hydrated and rested, everything seems worse when we don’t have the above.

What do you find you worry about most?

What helps you when you feel worry?

Are there other beliefs that come up under your worrying- what fear is it attached to?

Write a letter to these believes, and create permission for yourself to move past them.

Finally, remember we’re never aiming for perfection, it might not be feasible to not worry ever, but offering yourself space to find more calm, is something you totally deserve.
